Who we are
The Vicarage Gardens are owned and operated by the Christian Community Charitable Trust, a house church, some of whom live at the Old Vicarage, Carrington, Manchester.

The Vicarage Garden started life down in Hampshire in 1982. After three years of trading the company was not able to continue to lease the site. The decision was taken to move north giving the company more land. The gardens were laid out to give visitors an area of respite from a hectic world by providing peace and tranquility to sooth spirit soul and body, and secondly the chance to see the parent plants used by the Nursery for propagation.

The company became debt free in 1991 and has continued to grow into the multi faceted business that it is today, combining a Church a botanical gardens a specialist herbaceous nursery, and garden centre, all making up the Christian Community Trust. To learn more of how you can become part of this mission to mankind use one of the contact methods below.

Chris Goodman, Dip Hort. was a key member of the staff from the inception of the company. His entire life's work has been in horticulture, since starting at Perry's Water plant Farm in his teens. His Diploma was earned at Windsor and Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, but his most important credentials were his extensive practical knowledge and experience.Chris moved on in 2009 to join another charity venture in the Birmingham area.

Paul Haine was home taught and started learning in the company before leaving school, he became full time in 1990. With a wide knowledge of plants and cultivars, he now holds responsibility for customer service and stock control. Since his move to a nursery in the U.S.A. his duties have been taken over buy Daniel Alexander who is based at the Old Vicarage.

Elaine Haine was with the company since its formation and had responsibility for the office. Like all company employees she had a wide knowledge of horticulture, if you visited the centre you will most likely have met her on the check out or been helped by her advice in the plant display area.
